Increasing capacities, optimizing processes, increasing efficiency – with these requirements to strengthen their wholesale activities, the Swiss wholesale company Scheitlin-papier AG decided to build a modern logistics center in Niederuzwil/St. Gallen decided. The new warehouse location is 20 kilometers from the company headquarters in Wittenbach. An AutoStore system will be installed for small parts storage. Scheitlin-papier AG commissioned system integrator Element Logic with the cutting and project implementation of the automated storage and picking system. As the first official AutoStore integrator, the company has implemented more than 200 AutoStore solutions. “In addition to the many advantages of the Auto-Store concept, the proven expertise was a key factor in the award of the contract,” explains Claudia Scheitlin, co-owner of Scheitlin-Paper AG. The family business is a successful trading company and offers its customers solutions and products from the areas of professional cleaning, medical, hygiene, gastronomy and packaging. The range includes more than 12,000 items, half of which must always be available. In addition to the standard items, Scheitlin-Zeitung sells custom-made products and individually printed items in order to be able to supply customers with “everything from a single source”.
For the new logistics center in Niederuzwil, Element Logic created an AutoStore system for around 15,000 containers on an upper floor with a floor area of just 400 square meters. Up to 15 containers are stacked on top of each other in the system’s aluminum grid, which is a little more than five meters high. Three small robots from the R5 series, so-called robots, work on its surface and take over the storage, relocation and retrieval of the containers. For order picking, they transfer the totes with the required items to two work stations in the basement, so-called SwingPorts.
